@johnochjulius which song do you wish you had made yourself?

”Videotape by Radiohead, I keep humming and thinking about it, even though it’s a bit of a leap from what I make and listen to at the moment. It’s just elegant.”

Nice one! What inspires your creativity right now?

”Aleatoric techniques and randomness is an endless source of inspiration. And modular synthesis is such a natural way of exploring it. I enjoy the task of finding a way to conduct, interact with and channel streams of randomness into a somewhat cohesive artistic output.”

Random answer, but hey… 😛 What do you do right before going on stage?

”I don’t really know, I feel equal parts lost and right at home. But I probably ramble on about something.”

Sooo, what do you like the most about Phases and Matrix?

”I like that they are straight forward and do what they should but also adds a little twist to both their concepts. They really open up possibilities and expands your system. I keep getting the feeling ’oh I can do this now’ - there’s always another output or divison at hand to patch somewhere.”

Tonight, we attended the special screening of Soul

Tonight, we attended the special screening of Soul in Flames – The Adversarial Fires of Cold Meat Industry. It was an important lesson in local and global music history - and an absolute must-watch if you have even a passing interest in dark ambient, industry or noise as a genre.

CMI was a groundbreaking label in the ’80s and ’90s, shaping the entire industry and ambient scene worldwide. Linköping, our hometown, may not have been the reason for the label or its artists, but in some ways, it has served as a geographical focal point. The number of dark ambient artists per capita here is truly remarkable. And without these artists as an inspiration, we wouldn’t be building synthesizers today.

Last weekend we had our first local synth geek gathering and concert at the SEOK headquarter. It was great - thanks to everyone who support us in the local scene! We really appreciate you guys and want to show you our support and gratitude as well. We’re looking forward to hear more of your creativity in the HQ during 2025 and beyond 🙏

Our listening room is filled with a full blasting high fidelity soundsystem, acoustic treatment and sofas for about 16 people in the audience. Perfect for rehearsals, intimate concerts, workshops, gear testing, demos and pure listening. 🤓

MATRIX - in the chaos 🫣

Sometimes you just end up there. Modules everywhere. Cables in lost patches and yourself in the middle thinking - is this good, bad or everything in between at the same time?

In the video you have a bunch of LFO’s routed through our Matrix mixer, feeding CV into various modules. It’s a neat way to control your rack at one single point, making a whole chain of synthesis being affected by the twist of a few knobs. With somewhat unexpected but at the same time, controlled, output. Perfect for improvisation and live situations!

We are happy to announce our very first product!

Mix43 - Attenuverting Matrix

Now available at @efn_modular 🎉🙏

MIX43 is a DC-coupled attenuverting matrix mixer featuring four input channels and three output channels. Each knob serves to attenuate and invert the signal from its respective input, directing it to the corresponding output.

The knobs are set to zero at the 12 o’clock position. Turning the knobs clockwise adds the original signal to the mix, while turning them counterclockwise adds an inverted signal to the mix. MIX43 can be used to mix both control voltage (CV) and audio signals.
